De auteur, Patrick Vermeren, volgde in Nederland een masterclass in de Belbin teamrollen bij Rob Groen.
Meredith Belbin was een Brits psychologieprofessor die onderzoek deed naar sociale rollen in een team, de zogenaamde teamrollen. Bij elk team past volgens hem een optimale mix van sociale rollen (teamrollen). Er werd een test ontwikkeld om te bepalen wat je optimale rollen in een team zijn.

“I think that Belbin is correct in his general orientation – that a mixture of types of people is necessary for the effective functioning of teams -) but he is not specific which types are needed and when. Moreover, his measurement model is poorly validated, and his taxonomy of team roles is rather arbitrary.”
