Een apparaat dat waarlijk in staat zou zijn om functioneren van cellen te beïnvloeden zou te gevaarlijk zijn voor zelfbehandeling. Apparaten van dit soort model die een voldoende krachtig magneetveld opwekken om de cellen wel even te beïnvloeden wegen een paar ton en dat is de fMRI.
